The key to getting a good amount of variety in a newborn session is all in the flow! And the flow is important to get the clients in and out in under 90 minutes (or 45 minutes if it’s just the baby). There are times I need a little bit more time (if the baby is very fussy) but most clients don’t want to be in a session for hours.
First birthdays usually involve cake and many times, it’s their first taste of sugar! One year olds tend to fall into the category of no interest or going ham.
One of my previous newborn clients asked me if I knew anyone that did milk baths. Instead of referring it out, I decided to learn how to create the most beautiful milk bath for a maternity photography session.
The first thing we talked about was location. Most photography studios don’t have a stand alone bath tub, so options typically include the client’s home or a hotel room. I’m lucky enough to have a spacious bathroom with a stand alone tub and very neutral decor, so we decided to do the session in my bathroom.
I’m starting another Whole30 and if you know anything about that, you know having a good nut butter on hand is key!
I decided to ask my instagram followers for their favorite nut butters and I’ve rounded up the top 9. These have little to no added sweeteners, so if you’re trying to eat health, take notes!
What would you tell the high-school version of yourself?
I would tell myself that the things you care about right now will all fall away. In fact you won’t even remember them!
Right now I’m in a slow season for work. So, it’s the perfect time for me to talk about self care during the BUSY seasons!
My busy season is September through December. It’s when everyone needs family photos to send out a card for the holidays. I work every weekend with back to back mini-sessions. There’s lots of travel involved as I go from LA to Orange County and back.
One of my childhood memories is seeing my mom go HAM with spicy things! She’d be watering from her eyes and nose while she was adding more hot sauce to her food. There’s something addictive about adding spice to your food.
If you haven’t already read my posts about aperture and ISO, head there first! After I set the aperture on my camera, then my ISO, the last thing I think about is my shutter speed.

You bought a fancy camera, now what?
What’s the number one thing you can do to take better photos?
