Welcoming a new member into the family is a momentous occasion filled with joy, love, and endless opportunities to create lasting memories. One of the best ways to preserve these precious moments is through photography. Here are some newborn and siblings photo ideas to help you not only capture the essence of the newest family addition but also celebrate the bond between siblings.

1. Lay the Baby on the Older Sibling’s Lap: There’s something incredibly heartwarming about capturing the pure connection between a newborn and their older siblings. Arrange a cozy setup with soft blankets and cushions, gently lay the newborn on the older siblings lap, giving them a sense of responsibility and pride. This intimate moment showcases the tenderness that exists between siblings from the very beginning.

1. Let the Older Sibling Hug the Baby: If the older sibling is comfortable with the baby on his/her lap, you can place the baby in an upright position between their legs for them to hug the baby.  I use my 35mm lens so I’m always within arm’s reach if the baby starts to tip one way or the other.

3.  Shoot from above: If the older sibling is willing to lay on their back, this is a great pose.  It’s probably one of my favorites!  Start with the older sibling lying down and then gently place the baby at their shoulder.  Sometimes they’re willing to hug the baby or even give them a kiss and it’s so sweet to capture!

4. Older sibling lying on their tummy holding the baby: This is the best position to have the older sibling kiss the baby because you get the best angle of their face.  I also love it when the older sibling smiles at the camera because their faces are so close.

After I’ve photographed the siblings together, of course I’ll end with family photos.  These are much easier, as you have adults to help keep everyone in place!  But, I love the sibling photos because they capture all the brand new emotion that comes with adding a new baby to the family.
