I’m always in search of new locations!  I stumbled upon this park after getting a tip from a client.  Before booking a job there, I went alone to walk the park and see if it would work for my criteria.

What I look for when choosing a location:

  1. Parking has to be easily accessible.  Clients will walk 10-15 minutes for an epic location, but no further than that.  Especially with kids!  I also look for places that won’t run out of parking.  In LA/OC areas, parking lots can be small and no one wants to circle forever looking for a spot!
  2. The location is ideally non-busy.  This can be especially hard to find with beaches, but I will at least try!  This park is mainly for people that live close-by and want to go for a walk.  I’ve never found it to be crowded in all the times I’ve gone.  This is also important when you’re taking photos.  Families can relax a little more when there aren’t a lot of people walking by.
  3. The lighting has to work at multiple times of day.  Because I find myself booking sessions back to back, I’d like to have good lighting for several hours.  This park has plenty of trees for me to work around and create filtered light at different times of day.

Castaways Park hit all these notes and I’ve added it to my calendar for fall mini-sessions!

I hope you love it as much as I do!
