Today, I’m headed out with some cute kids to scout. It’s easy to get caught up in the day-to-day tasks of running a business. I get weighed down by the mundane, so this little experience of looking for new places that inspire me puts the wind back in my sail. I can’t wait to share new places with you that will have you ooohing and ahhing right along with me!
// This photo was recently taken at a commercial child photography session in Orange County.
It’s special when grandparents are able to be at a photo session. Not only do they get to make lasting memories with their grandkids, but they have been through parenthood. They’ve seen it all. So, they add a laid-back vibe that is wonderful when things can stressful trying to get little ones to cooperate.
If the grandparents are going to be in town (or they already live here) consider adding them to your photo session. It’ll make your life a whole lot easier. And, you get the added bonus of photographing them with their grand kids. Hello, perfect present!
“When life is sweet, say thank you and celebrate. And when life is bitter, say thank you and grow.”

Such a poignant reminder that when life is less than ideal, not only do we need to cope, but we need to grow. After a particularly rough week, I was happy to have a weekend with good photo sessions. People that love each other and let me in to capture it all.
**If you are interested in a couch photo session, I have a few spots left on March 30. Email or call to sign up. (Contact buttons on the left.)
Hey! It’s been awhile since I’ve been back at the store. Christmas was a loooong time ago. This the upcoming photo sessions, I painted a backdrop with fresh colors that highlight spring. I’m loving chambray for boys against the backdrop, and all the fun Easter dresses will look amazing too!
Here’s how it works…head into Rascals to Rebels and make a minimum $50 purchase. Then you’ll be able to sign up for a 15 minute session. (Can’t make it in? Call the store to purchase a $50 gift card and they’ll sign you up over the phone. You can shop at your convenience and still save your spot.) I’ll be at the store on April 5 from 1-3pm and April 6 from 11am to 1pm doing the mini-sessions. It’s for kids 12 and under with a maximum of 3 kids per session. A few days later you’ll be proofing your images online and ordering what you like! Easy as that and you get them back in time for Easter.
I love when all the starts align. Carmen, the owner of Hip at Heart, emailed me about booking a last minute session in December. We coordinated our schedules and I was able to fit her in before one of my previously booked sessions at a rural park. We were texting as she was driving and I was telling her the grass was still a little wet. At the last minute we ditched the park plan and met in the parking lot of a Jewish synagogue.
The result was nothing short of perfection…the casually chic get-up was able to shine with the simple background. Not only was everything aesthetically pleasing, the kids were as sweet as can be. We hugged it out in the parking lot with hopes to do it again soon!
Here’s a sneak peek at Jillian’s grown-up room…

It’s been a while since I’ve highlighted someone from the community, but this one will make up for it. Prism Boutique has an expertly curated selection of bohemian-style clothing and jewelry in the heart of Belmont Heights. We need about a million more businesses like this in Long Beach…people who are just amazing at their trade. Dayna’s passion for her store is apparent in every little detail. I photographed the store last week and was amazed at how many details I had missed the time before.
I met Dayna at Anthropolgie when I was photographing events at the store. Years later, she left her job at the store to begin her own venture. You imagine her starting with a blank canvas, but that wasn’t the case. She had to work through layers of paint, plastic lattice and fake grass to get to the bare bones of the structure. Once that was accomplished she and her husband worked to create everything from the cash wrap to the clothing racks. I even ran into Dayna at Home Depot during her construction days. Seeing her dream become a reality is awe-inspiring.
If you’re in Long Beach, head over to her store on 406 Termino Ave. If you aren’t local, don’t fret…you can shop her goods online!
My new favorite after-school snack for the kids! We love these so much, they’re gone in about 2 days. The topping is reminiscent of an apple crisp. Head over to Little Skye Kids where I share the recipe…
