I love sharing snippets from my newborn photo shoots in the Long Beach studio! It’s a little glimpse into a brand new life with a little one. Capturing these memories for my clients is a true joy. Babies grow so fast that it’s important to schedule as close to the two week mark as possible.
I typically start with parents and baby because I keep the room warm. The longer clients are sitting in the warm room, the more they start to feel the heat. Plus, it’s nice to get that part done so parents can relax and watch me photograph the baby alone.
I like to mix in photos of parents alone with the baby. But, it’s important to streamline as much as possible. If mom is holding the baby in the family photos, I’ll have dad step aside and photograph mom and baby alone.
Then, we’ll reverse and have dad hold the baby alone and add mom in for a variety of family photos.
In this particular photo shoot, I wanted mom to hold the baby in a different position. So, we went back to her alone in a different hold and then added in dad for even more family photos.
I also like to add in variety by adding sitting photos. I use a futon folded flat with a blanket layered over top. It’s really soft and pretty and allows me to get a different view of the family.
After we concluded the family photos, I went on to photograph Baby J alone. The whole process takes about 90 minutes with feeding and soothing breaks. The family photos alone can be completed in about 20-30 minutes.
