As your little one’s first birthday approaches, the excitement and desire to capture every moment of this significant milestone grow. Celebrating this monumental year with a photoshoot is a fantastic way to cherish these memories forever. If you’re looking for a timeless, simple, yet profoundly beautiful first birthday photoshoot idea, you’ve come to the right place. It doesn’t have to be complicated or overdone, this photoshoot highlights the baby and the props are a wooden chair, a flower crown and a favorite stuffed animal. We created a set of photos that are as enchanting as they are personal.
It’s all about the soft winter white for this Newport Beach baby photographer! I love how dreamy this session turned out. The light coming into the studio is very conducive to newborn sessions.
I can tell brand new parents by the way they handle a newborn. And it makes sense! Brand new babies have no neck strength. So, holding them or handing them off to someone else can feel like handling a piece of fragile glass.
One Year Baby Photos
A whole lot changes in a year. The last time I saw this little guy he was brand new to the world. Now he has teeth and eats everything. He is aiming to walk any day now and isn’t scare of anything. It must be time for one year baby photos.
Documenting your baby at one year shows their curiosity and wonder. The world is their oyster. I love this stage because they have a look in their eyes that says, ‘everybody loves me.’ Everyone they look at smiles back and they know it.
One year is also filled with discovery. Scroll down to see the baby looking for his belly button after his mom’s cue. Those big belly rolls over the jeans won’t last forever. It’s these sweet little moments that will be so different in one more year, so of course we document them.

I recently photographed a family just before they moved back to NYC. It was extra special because I was able to photograph their baby as a newborn last summer. We got the most perfect overcast lighting that makes everything bright and vibrant. It was chilly, but maybe it was the sky’s way of getting them ready to move back to the cold. Either way, it was a great morning and I’m so thankful I was able to document their time in Los Angeles.
Los Angeles Baby Photographer // Good-bye for Now
I just wrapped my very last photo session at the Rascals to Rebels Boutique. They close their doors on Friday after 15 years in the community. I’ve been working with them since 2008! It’s bittersweet because the store will continue to have an online presence with the hope of also doing special events.
So that you don’t shed too many tears, take a look at these cutie pie sisters there were there over the weekend!

Sometimes less is more. Baby Beatrix’s mama loves white. Lots and lots of white. She had been walking around art galleries while she was pregnant and the stark contrast of negative space inspired her. We ran with it and used 99% white for Beatrix’s newborn session. The few bits of soft neutrals that popped up still went with the overall theme. I’m so happy with the results. It makes me want to use white more often. It’s so fresh and clean!

She found me through the post on Modern Parents Messy Kids. The one where I talked about how important it is to get in photos with your kids. Coming on the heels of attending an unexpected funeral, she immediately called me.
We hit it off right away over the phone and by the time I arrived to her Los Angeles home to start the photo session, we were like old friends. I wanted to start on their bed…just to let the kids get comfy and realize I was there to have fun. It was click, click, YES. This one. This one is now a huge canvas in their home. And doesn’t it just capture the life they’re living right at this moment? LOVE.
After capturing so many sweet moments with their kids, we moved the party outside for some more formal posed photos and like every good couple should, a photo without the kids. Remembering where it all started.
This photo session was a long time coming. And it all started before this baby was even born. I did a photo session for one of his mama’s co-workers almost 2 years ago. They work together in Los Angeles and she saw the pictures and thought some day she’d like to have photos like that. Fast forward to this baby being born and quickly on his way to a year. His mama found me again through her co-worker and the rest is history!
I love the vibe of this park in the Los Angeles area. It’s just full of long grass and big trees and winding paths. Perfect for a little free-spirited family.
