My day generally starts with a tiptoe across hardwood floors to the coffee maker. After a big cup of black coffee has warmed my hands and de-fogged my brain, I steal a quiet half hour to myself…trying to start the day out right. And trust me, I need it. I’ll read my Bible and just pray or think about things that I’m far too busy during the day to stop and think about. Most mornings the kids cross my mind. When you have your own children, you quickly realize that your heart is living outside your body. Their best moments are your pride and joy and their troubles are your gut-wrenching agony. I’m so hopeful for my kids. I love seeing their personalities and talents blossom. I’m equally scared for the moments that we all must walk through. Hurt feelings, disappointment, bad choices, general heartache. When I pray for my kids, I pray for protection. I pray they’ll make good choices and that their life will be blessed. But, the other morning, I was thinking about how we are who we are because of pain. We can’t have character without walking through some tough experiences. It’s so hard, because I don’t want my children to experience anything painful…but I know that in order for them to build character, they will. And my heart will get a few more bumps and bruises in the process.
Guess what!?! I’m featured today on Tiny Oranges! It’s such a great website for moms of children living in Orange County. I love the it highlights everything from local events to tips from other moms, amazing products and everything in between! Jen is featuring my Mother’s Day special. I have a few more spots left…so if you’re thinking about it EMAIL ME! (info@kristineldridge.com) I also have beautiful gift cards, so if haven’t hinted yet for Mother’s Day, let your guy know this is what you want! 🙂
Click here to check out the details for the Mother’s Day Special. And I thought I’d share another session of a mama with her kids. I love when moms take the time to do this. It’s something you’ll always cherish!
I love the everyday pictures…the unfolding of life. How quickly kids grow and don’t carry around their superhero lunch boxes!
These photos were taken at the Cal State Long Beach Japanese Garden. It was so much fun to follow around these cousins and see them take in the whole thing.
The kids come with their grandmas and each had their favorite part. His was scooping water out of the fountain. What a fun long-handled cup!
Then he decided to take a drink. It’s one of those moments that I have to decide if I should act like a mom or a photographer. 🙂 I decided to act like a photographer and document the moment while everyone rushed over to say that drinking out of the fountain may not be the best idea.
Thanks for letting me tag along on your adventures through the Japanese Garden!

So. Cute babies. I love ’em.
Wyatt was quite the jet-setter…we made it to the park, the beach, the train and a pile of leaves during his photo session!
Sometimes people shy away from pictures at the beach because they don’t want to be cliche. Instead we focused on bright colors, back lighting and lots of shells to play with!
I always ask parents…what does he/she like to do? After hearing me babble baby talk for a few minutes, they get a little bored! So, parents are usually full of ideas of baby’s favorite activities du jour. Wyatt was into hanging upside down…which got a few laughs and then I love this picture…everyone’s hanging out, Wyatt’s just hanging out upside down.
I love love love this new website from The Wedding Chicks (click here to see the website)…it’s called On to Baby and highlights all the fun things about being pregnant and bringing a new little life into the world, every stylish step of the way.
They are featuring a maternity session that I did with Allyson and Rich Baker in Hume, CA. We had so much fun taking advantage of everything a place like Hume Lake has to offer, from old buses to boats on the lake. So go check out the site and see more gorgeous photos! I keep a constant list of inspiration and as something strikes me, I’ll write it down so I don’t forget. It’s always exciting to cross something off the list. Getting to see the end result is pretty awesome too!
I finally got my sewing machine out and figured out how to construct these fabric kites…turned out pretty cute! Draw out the outline of a kite on 2 pieces of fabric and sew them right sides together. Then I left an opening for the dowels, which I cut slightly larger than each side, so they would fit in nice and snug. After I inserted them through the opening, I hand-stitched it close. I attached a grosgrain ribbon and bits of fabric tied every few inches. I photoshopped this part out, but I also attached a piece of embroidery floss to the other end, which my assistant is holding on to. Making it look like the kites are flying!
This was such a fun project…I’m so glad to have Jillian and her friend Lyndsay as models for my kite inspiration!
Makes me excited for Spring!
