There is something truly magical about photographing a brand-new little life. As a Long Beach newborn photographer, I’m invited into some of the most intimate, fleeting moments a family will ever experience. This week, I had the privilege of photographing a beautiful family who welcomed their first baby—an incredibly calm, squishy, perfect little boy who absolutely melted my heart.

Capturing Sweet Beginnings – A Recent Newborn Session in Long Beach

Why the First Two Weeks Matter

When parents reach out to schedule their newborn session, the first question I’m usually asked is: “When should we book?” The answer is simple—ideally within the first two weeks after birth. During this window, babies are still in that sleepy, curled-up stage that makes newborn photography so special. Their natural flexibility and frequent naps allow us to comfortably pose them and create those dreamy, serene images that parents love.

By the third week and beyond, babies begin stretching out, waking for longer periods, and becoming more aware of their surroundings. These changes are wonderful milestones—but they also mean a very different photo experience. To capture the tiny details, soft stillness, and peaceful expressions that define classic newborn portraits, timing is everything.

Highlights From the Session

This recent session took place in the soft, natural morning light of my Long Beach studio. We focused on simple, timeless setups—neutral tones, gentle textures, and poses that highlighted all the little details: wispy hair, tiny fingers, curled toes. Baby slept like a dream, allowing us to create an entire gallery of beautifully consistent images.

Some of my favorite moments were the candid in-between shots—mom soothing the baby, dad gently kissing baby’s nose, and the family’s quiet smiles as they took in this new chapter of life. These unscripted moments often become the photos families treasure most.
