Kids are unpredictable. Maybe that’s why I love them as subjects. I never know what’s going to happen when I walk into a session. Even if I’ve photographed the child before, maybe they’re going through a shy phase…maybe they had some extra sugar that day, or maybe they just missed a nap. I make decisions on the fly and I have to creatively come up with a plan for the session…while it’s happening!
The session started out (with one of my most favorite clients!) with smiles and laughs, but lack of sleep and changed nap schedules, etc. left us in a bit of a crunch. So, I pulled out every trick in the book! We tickled little sister with leaves, played hide and go seek, did a little exploring and when all else failed, snuggled with mom.
(LOVE this picture.) Most importantly, I love that you would never know the situation was less than optimal. I always say I was born to do this. Nothing ruffles me…I have my own 3 crazy kids and melt-downs have been part of my life for, well what feels like forever! So, even if there’s a kink in the plan, your pictures will still turn out wonderful. They will capture life as it unfolds. My favorite thing.
This has got to be a first…two blog posts in one night! I’m on a roll! I’m actually just kind of caught up for the moment and I have oh, I don’t know, NINETY SEVEN photo sessions I haven’t shared because I’ve been too busy. 🙂 Anyway, this adorable family lives a little ways from Long Beach, so I did a little location scouting to find this location for them. I’ll definitely be going back. It’s a small park that backs up against an equestrian center. I love the white fences and the lighting is just amazing.
Such a cute little girl…and that hair! I love redheads. 🙂

I love family pictures that are a bit less posed. This one just has me smiling!
Jude is the best big brother…
I think Finn’s going to have the gorgeous long eyelashes…just like his big brother!
Finn let me try out a few of the newborn cocoons…and what a sweet little model he was! If you’re a photographer interested in purchasing a newborn cocoon, please email me (info@kristineldridge.com).
I’m so excited about this new location for my Holiday photo sessions! It has the perfect subtle lighting, pops of color and unique architecture. I’m offering Holiday mini-sessions for the months of November and December.
The details: $100 for a 20 minute photo session (in the Long Beach area for up to 5 people) and help planning your clothing, props, etc. and an ordering session if you’d like it.
I’ve already booked quite a few days, so call soon to book your session 562.980.6480 or email to inquire. info@kristineldridge.com
We were supposed to meet when he was born, but the photo session fell through and months past. Now he’s 6 months old with chubby fingers and toes. And big blue eyes. HUGE. He’s so expressive and was really into his surroundings. Even though our photo shoot was 6 months late, he had 6 months to get even cuter!
Every year I love helping the kids pick out their Halloween costumes! Their choice always reflects their personality. And how awesome is it to be able to dress up and be someone else for the day!! Kids own it too…they fully embrace the super hero or princess and embody that character.
Well, if you’re like me, I think about taking the photos at night and they usually don’t turn out that fabulous. Soooo, I’m teaming up with Rascals to Rebels again for a Halloween photo shoot! We wanted to make this do-able for everyone, so it’s a drop by event. Meaning…you don’t need to make an appointment.
I’ll be at the Rascals to Rebels in Rossmoor on October 30 from 2-4pm and the Rascals to Rebels in Huntington Beach on October 31 from 3-5pm. I’ll spend a minute or two with each child and get a few fun photos in front of my hand-painted grey backdrop. The photos are simple, timeless and a fun way to commemorate a really FUN holiday!
Here’s the deal…it’s $20 and you’ll get THREE digital images (high resolution). Drop by with your kids in their costumes, pay the $20 and fill out a bit of info so I can email you the photos the next day. Share them with all your family and friends, make copies. IT’S A GREAT DEAL!
Also, Rascals to Rebels has so many cute Halloween tees and accessories that you’ll want to do a little shopping while you’re there. 🙂
This week is one of those times that I’m thankful to be able to spend countless hours at my computer. In my air-conditioned house. The temperature has been well over 100 and we are all saying that summer and fall decided to do a little switch-a-roo. Oh well. How can we complain when the rest of the country will be getting out their winter gear and we will be heading to the beach!
Stay cool!

I’m so excited about my new cards for 2010! All cards are custom made, so text, color and some design elements can be changed.
You are welcome to use photos taken earlier this year for Christmas card designs. I am more than happy to make recommendations for what will go well with your photos!

I’ve photographed Payton before, with her adorable red curls. It was an extra special treat to get her mommy with her in front of the camera!
Their connection is so sweet! Payton just wanted to be with her mommy. She wasn’t paying much attention to the camera…which is exactly the way I like it!
We had such a fun time! I can’t wait to meet the new baby!!
