Lanais and Grass [Honolulu Children’s Photographer]

Believe it or not, I wasn’t only at the beach in Hawaii….I also photographed in the lanai of a beautiful home and took a few on the grass under the palm trees for those that weren’t so into the sandy smiles!

These two were a little shy at first (as in, MOM DO NOT GO ANYWHERE)…but by the end we were old friends! 🙂

And I’ll wrap up the post with a few more of the gorgeous beach I was at…still trying to get over the color of the water. Almost doesn’t look real!!

Now, don’t you all want to plan your next vacation to this place!?

Feel Something [Hawaii Family Photographer]

When I started my business, I used to have my friend Shannon (who is an amazing photographer) critique my work. I’ll never forget a bit of advice she gave me…”you want your photos to make people feel SOMETHING.”

I love looking at images thatbring me to tears, tug at my heart, sigh, laugh, cringe…make me FEEL SOMETHING.

Life is more than a pretty picture and it definitely isn’t perfect. As I was combing through a lot of these images from my jobs in Hawaii, I recalled Shannon’s advice.

I should also mention that these gorgeous people are my friends. I went to college with Tony many moons ago. His amazing wife and kids are the perfect subjects. They put their emotions out there…the best way to be photographed!

Impossibly Blue Water! [Honolulu Children’s Photographer]

I’m easing back into reality…the reality that doesn’t include breakfast on the beach at 10am and hours of reading under the sun. But, the fun thing is that my work week has included hours of editing beach pictures…so it’s like I’m back in Hawaii enjoying the white sand and impossibly blue water!

This is just a small sliver of all the sunshine drenched cuties on my hard drive right now. I promise to blog my socks off tomorrow and finish the sharing, but for now I still feel 3 hours ahead of myself. In Hawaii time.

Obsession with Chairs [Long Beach Children’s Photographer]

I have more chairs stuffed in 1300 square feet of space than any other person alive. There’s the 10+ dining room chairs because I have a lot of friends and I like to have people over for dinner! Then, there’s chairs stashed in each of the kids’ rooms…artfully disguised as pieces of decor. I have several chairs in the studio, then there’s my secret stash of chairs hiding under the eave in the back.

I love seeing a toddler climb all over a chair. The way little toes dangle just above the floor…the way they lend themselves to hide-and-seek games and nooks to snuggle into.

So, the chairs will always be rotating from Craiglist to my house, then back on Craiglist!

Let’s focus on the positives in this situation. The constant rotation of vintage furniture in and out of my house takes me from being a hoarder and puts my into the eco-chic category. 🙂 I’m the recycling queen!

Highlight Reel [Bay Area Children’s Photographer]

So…the weekend was a blur. Many hours on the road, bestest of friends, BBQs, sleep-overs and hugs from all my clients I now call friends.

I had the day to sort out files, edit and get packed up to leave again. This time for Hawaii. It’s part work and part fun…well mostly fun! And the work is fun too…so I guess it’s all fun! 🙂

Seeing that I’ll be on a plane all day tomorrow, I wanted to give you a little highlight reel from my weekend in the bay area. And can I just say that it’s so much prettier than Long Beach. I’m sorry, LB…I love you. But, northern CA is the place to be for photographers.

My next post will most likely have white sand and blue water. Sorry to rub it in. 🙂

April in the Bay Area [Bay Area Children’s Photographer]

I CANNOT believe it’s been almost a year since I’ve been back to the Bay Area to take photos and visit friends. Crazy! I’ve been in contact with a few of my previous clients and I’m mostly booked, but I decided to open up Sunday morning April 18 for some mini-sessions.

Unfortunately, I’ve priced myself out of many of my previous client’s budgets, so this is a great/affordable way to update your photos while I’m there.

Price: $100 includes 20 minute session and one digital image

Location: Park in the East Bay (exact location depends on who will be attending 🙂

Date/Time: April 18 10:00am to 11:30am

And since rainbowed colored hands has NOTHING to do with mini-sessions in the Bay Area, I’ll include this to add a little chuckle to your day. Who knew egg dye was so strong!? The kids had multi-colored hands at church on Sunday morning. I guess I probably should have MADE them use the sticks provided in the kit. 🙂

The grass is greener [Huntington Beach Child Photography]

Straight haired girls want curls. Curly haired girls want straight hair. The grass is always greener on the other side!

I have the fascination with curly haired girls…you know the ringlets that boing boing they walk. Oh, it’s just the cutest thing!

Her mom told me that they were planning on having it straightened, but it didn’t work out. I’m sure it would have been lovely, but then I wouldn’t have all these darling little curls in my pictures!!

I should also mention that there’s a little brother…he doesn’t have curls, but he’s equally as cute. 🙂

Hope your week is off to a great start! My kids are on Spring Break, so I only have one photo session scheduled this week (a newbie that I just can’t let get any older!). All that to say, I think I’ll have a bit more time to get you all caught up on the blog.

Hello, World [Orange County Newborn Photographer]

My favorite part of photographing maternity clients is getting a text that says, “I’m in labor!” It’s so exciting to know the baby is coming and in a week or so, I’ll be meeting the baby and helping them to document this INCREDIBLE stage of life.

Baby Luke arrived on March 4th and I was at their house on March 9th to photograph him in his new little room. (**This is the perfect time to photograph newborns! Before two weeks is optimal for getting the best photos.) One of my favorite things was his bassinet. The color of the walls and the natural tones of the bassinet make such a beautiful picture!

I also got to try out a brand-new prop…my newborn cocoons! I had several of these made and they turned out perfectly!! I’m able to offer them to other photographers. If you’re interested, they are silk/wool/mohair loop and the shape/size is perfect for wrapping newborns and my knitter will sell them for $50. Last Chance! [Vintage Furniture Children’s Photography]

This has been a month of favors! My father-in-law has been lending his truck (and his muscles!), Brent has been lending his muscles, Jeni has been lending her backyard and Matt has let his gardening chores fall by the wayside, so I can have that long overgrown look. All that to make pretty pictures!!

The sad news is, my time with the Victorian settee is coming to an end. I will be selling the couch at the beginning of April, so my last photo sessions will be March 31.

If you’ve been on the fence, call me before it goes away!! I have a few time slots throughout the day…even in the early evening.

I owe all my friends and family BIG-TIME, so I think the next piece I acquire will be a little smaller. 🙂 Maybe a little more manageable!

Point Fermin Lighthouse [Palos Verdes Children’s Photographer]

If you live in Southern California…you’re probably finding any excuse to get outside. It was gorgeous today!! So, I’ll make this short and sweet so you can get out and enjoy the sunshine. 🙂

Claire, the baby of the bunch, modeled for me when I did a photo shoot for Green as Wee Grow. She’s a lot older now and brought her big brother and sister with her to the photo shoot.

Such a cute family! Lisa and I work out together…so we planned this photo session while getting our behinds kicked by our lift instructor! We decided on Point Fermin Light House so we could do a little greenery and a little beach. It was a nice change to be at a rocky beach and the light couldn’t have been better!

I’m so glad I got to photograph Lisa and her family…they are so sweet. I think it really comes across in the images. 🙂
