It was a cloudy day in Irvine/Newport Beach area and the clouds created the perfect soft-box lighting for this light and airy family photo session.  But we weren’t just taking family photos!  It was this little guy’s first birthday, so we were also going to be highlighting one year and celebrating with a mini birthday cake.

Adding family photos into the first birthday celebration is a great idea.  And if you’re going to be including a cake, of course saving that until the very end is the best plan of action.  If you don’t believe me, scroll to the bottom to see dad holding a very messy one year old!

I love the way the first birthday photos are timeless and simple with the simple props of a vintage chair, birthday hat and the cake.  What a great photoshoot!
