When Should You Book Your Orange County Newborn Session?
The best time to photograph your newborn is within the first 7–14 days after birth. During this window, babies sleep deeply, curl naturally into those precious poses, and still have that brand-new look that passes so quickly. I recommend booking your session while you’re still pregnant — ideally in your second trimester — so we have a spot reserved and ready for when your little one arrives.
Where Do Newborn Sessions Take Place?
As an Orange County newborn photographer, I offer two main session styles:
In-Home Lifestyle Sessions — These are my personal favorite. We photograph your baby in the comfort of your own home, using your natural light and your real surroundings. These images feel authentic and documentary — the way your baby actually lived in those first days. I serve families throughout Long Beach, Newport Beach, Huntington Beach, Laguna Beach, Irvine, Manhattan Beach, and surrounding areas.
Studio-Style Sessions — Prefer a cleaner, more classic look? I can also create a simple, beautiful studio setup with wraps, props, and soft neutral tones that keep the focus entirely on your baby.
What Should You Do to Prepare?
Very little — that’s the beauty of newborn photography! Here are a few simple tips:
- Keep the house warm. Babies are most relaxed when they’re warm. We’ll turn up the heat a bit during the session.
- Feed your baby right before we start. A full, sleepy baby is a cooperative baby!
- Don’t stress about tidying up. For lifestyle sessions, a lived-in home looks real and beautiful.
- Plan for a longer session. Newborn sessions typically last 45-90 minutes. We go at your baby’s pace — there’s no rushing.
What Makes a Great Newborn Photographer in Orange County?
There are a lot of photographers in the Orange County and Los Angeles area, so how do you choose? Here’s what I’d look for:
Safety first. Newborns are fragile. Any pose that looks like baby is supporting their own head is a composite image — two photos merged together. Make sure your photographer is trained in safe posing practices.
A style that matches your vision. Browse portfolios carefully. My work tends toward soft, natural, and timeless — I avoid heavy filters or overly staged setups. If you want images you’ll still love in 20 years, a classic approach is the way to go.
Good communication. You should feel comfortable asking questions before, during, and after your session. I’m always available by email and love hearing from expecting families.
