Newborn Photography Long Beach [All the love for the new baby]

newborn photography long beach

When babies are born close together, sometimes it’s hard to realize you’re not the only baby in the family anymore.  It can be a little bit of a transition for young toddlers to add a new baby to the mix.  But, the flip side is that the transition tends to go quickly.  Days and weeks later, the routine becomes normal and the siblings can hardly remember a time without each other.  [ Newborn Photography Long Beach ]

I’ve been photographing newborns for 10 years and I notice this really unique bond formed between siblings that are close together.  The older sibling wants to give all their love to the new baby.  They shower the baby with kisses and hugs.  Toddlers can also become little helpers and wanting to feed the baby and quiet her when she cries.

I think this bond is so special and I love being able to capture these sweet little moments.

I start the session by asking, is your baby serious?  One year olds can be all business.  They have a whole world to learn!  And if I try to get too silly, it will just back fire and scare them.  But, if I ease into things, the smiles will come at the end of the session.

This particular session started out with the baby just checking me out.  She was curious about me and the big black camera.  But, before long, she forgot she was at a photo session and her mom and dad were able to get her laughing and smiling.

That’s the beauty of reading people (and babies).  If you ask questions and be accommodating, everything goes your way!

Moments // Long Beach Photographer

I just finished up all my sessions for Mother’s Day.  Even though, this photo obviously doesn’t include a mother, I wanted to share it.  I love those impromptu moments where you’re not planning on shooting something, but you just look over and BAM, perfect moment.  I love hands-on dads too.  They make a shoot fun!

Also, Budapest.  Are you into this song?  I’ve been listening to it while I edit.  I actually had to look up the lyrics.  You know those songs you sing along to and then realize you’re not singing actual words at certain points.  If you haven’t heard it yet, listen here.

Long Beach Family Photographer // Jacarandas

I wish I could show you my ten year school photo.  Let me re-phrase…you would die laughing if you saw me at ten.  Spoiler alert: the photo was heavy on the perm, the oversize glasses and the turtleneck.  When I look at my daughter who just turned ten, I’m blown away at her maturity.  The way she handles herself and moves through the world is much older than ten.  And I mean that in a good way.  Yes, she has her tween moments, but she has a lot of grace about her too.

For her ten year photos, I wanted to follow the jacarandas.  Every year I say I’m going to.  In Long Beach, May gives way to purple.  We drive under violet clouds and crush them with our feet with ever step on the sidewalk.  Long-time residents hate them and Brent even said he didn’t want to buy a house that lived under a jacaranda tree.  Their sticky sap can ruin carpets and paint jobs alike.

Jillian and I found a little cluster in Long Beach to do our photographs.  By mid-May, the branches were already starting to look a little bare.  But, now that we sit near the last day of may, I’m so glad that we made the time.  Their brief month of beauty is almost now forgotten.  Just like how nine years flew by.  And here come the double digits…

Being a Fun Parent! //Child Photographer Long Beach

Today I’m over on Modern Parents Messy Kids talking about being a fun parent.  You know the kind that breaks out in song, does a silly dance and is not afraid to embarrass themself.  I have to work hard at being a fun parent.  I’m the one that is thinking about what we’ll have for dinner and how I’m going to fold that mountain of laundry on my bed before it’s actually time to go to bed!  But, it can be done.  I have learned to be sensible and FUN!

While we’re on the subject, how cute is this mama and her little girl.  This is a share from one of my recent Mother’s Day photo sessions in Long Beach.
