Photographing newborns is such an intimate session. I love having a slow two hours to spend with each family. I’m not running around like I do at outdoor sessions with families. The pace is slow and patience is key. Especially when it comes to involving older siblings. I’ve written about how to photograph newborns with their siblings here and more newborn tricks of the trade here. But, sometimes, they just make it totally easy on me and do everything I nicely ask. Either way, getting photographs of a new family is so rewarding and one of my favorite parts of my job.
If you’ve never had portraits with your children, this is the perfect opportunity. I’ve scouted the most amazing location…it’s peaceful, idyllic and just about perfect. I’m offering 30 minute sessions (instead of the normal 20) for $100 and a free digital image to the first four that sign up and pay for their session. I wanted to include some extra time here because, really it truly is gorgeous! Now, even though this is the perfect session for moms….you can also book it for just the kids or the whole family!
The sessions will be held in Trabuco Canyon on April 26. I’ll start with 3:30 (filled), 4:00, 4:30, 5:00 (filled) and 5:30. To secure your spot, either pay through square (all your info will come to me an email) or you can call or email (contact buttons on the left.)
It’s special when grandparents are able to be at a photo session. Not only do they get to make lasting memories with their grandkids, but they have been through parenthood. They’ve seen it all. So, they add a laid-back vibe that is wonderful when things can stressful trying to get little ones to cooperate.
If the grandparents are going to be in town (or they already live here) consider adding them to your photo session. It’ll make your life a whole lot easier. And, you get the added bonus of photographing them with their grand kids. Hello, perfect present!

Such a poignant reminder that when life is less than ideal, not only do we need to cope, but we need to grow. After a particularly rough week, I was happy to have a weekend with good photo sessions. People that love each other and let me in to capture it all.
**If you are interested in a couch photo session, I have a few spots left on March 30. Email or call to sign up. (Contact buttons on the left.)
I love when all the starts align. Carmen, the owner of Hip at Heart, emailed me about booking a last minute session in December. We coordinated our schedules and I was able to fit her in before one of my previously booked sessions at a rural park. We were texting as she was driving and I was telling her the grass was still a little wet. At the last minute we ditched the park plan and met in the parking lot of a Jewish synagogue.
The result was nothing short of perfection…the casually chic get-up was able to shine with the simple background. Not only was everything aesthetically pleasing, the kids were as sweet as can be. We hugged it out in the parking lot with hopes to do it again soon!
They’re back! I’m opening up another round of mini-sessions at a secluded little spot in Laguna. Last year was so much fun! There’s so much exploring to do in the beautiful place.
The mini-sessions will be February 17 (President’s Day, so you may have it off work). I’ll start with morning sessions and if they fill up, I will open up some afternoon sessions as well. So, email me if you can’t do morning and I will try to do afternoon too.
Cost: $100 for a 30 minute session (I’m making it longer than my normal 20 minutes because there’s so much to see!) There will be special rates for digital image packages for the first four clients that book, so you can email about that as well.
Date/Time: February 17th 9:00, 9:30, 10:00 and 10:30am (but if these fill up, I’ll do an afternoon session too) And this is plenty of time for just the kids or the whole family.
January is the hardest month. We’re coming off sugar cookies and a constant string of parties. January just seems so dull. The most exciting thing happening is the drawers I’m re-organizing. And let’s not even talk about weight-loss goals. But, it’s behind us now. February is a short month, with the highlight of Valentine’s Day right in the middle and even a day off school! I hope your February is off to a good start. Are you planning your Valentine’s yet? I did a round up of free printable Valentine’s over on Modern Parents Messy Kids if you want to check it out. And in the meantime, here’s a little flash back from a super cute family’s holiday photo session.
I was thinking the other day about how important it is to believe in people and invest in them. Years ago, someone believed in me and bought me a sewing machine. At the time, I was making little girls dresses out of vintage linens and selling them online. I was getting by on an old junker of a sewing machine when someone from church told me they loved what I was doing and wanted to gift me a sewing machine that would make my job much easier.
Fast forward a few years and I had saved enough money to quit sewing and buy a professional camera, lenses, a Mac and everything else I needed to start this photography business. I feel like it was that initial investment that got my foot in the door. I learned how to run a business through those initial years.
Look around you and encourage those hard-workers in your life. Whether it’s an uplifting text, watching their kids for the afternoon or spending cash on them…believe in them. I’m so thankful someone believed in me.

I love LOVE. It’s probably why I enjoy my job so much. Getting to photograph families that love each other is the best! So, this Valentine’s Day I wanted to make this easy for you. You might just want a few snaps to get all crafty with your child’s Valentines, maybe you want to update photos of your children or you missed the boat on doing Christmas card photos, so this is an excuse to get the family together for a shoot.
Here’s how it’ll work…I’m offering limited spots on Feb 1 with 3 options. To sign up, you can either email me at firstname.lastname@example.org or call 562-980-6480.

If you’ve worked with me before, you know I’m fast! I like to make it fun for you and get you in and out with a handful of great images! But remember, it is fast, so if you have a child that is very shy and needs time to warm up, please choose the 10 or 20 minute session.
The location! In the morning I’ll be at a park in the LA area (about 15-20 min from Long Beach) and in the afternoon I’ll be at a park in Huntington Beach. (Specific directions will be emailed when you book.)
I will bring some fun Valentine props, which we can use if you want!
You’ll have the photos delivered by Feb 7 with a full week to work on projects/gifts before Valentine’s Day. (Scroll down to see the available times.)
If you’re in Southern California right now, you’re experiencing summer with me. Isn’t it crazy to be wearing sandals and sundresses? In January!?! I moved to LA in January of 1997. I remember getting on the plane in Missoula, MT with the thermometer reading -7. I got off the plane during a heat wave, like we’re having right now. I met my would-be husband that day and I never looked back! With summer weather year round and a cute guy by my side, I’m still here!
Here’s some more shares from the holiday sessions I did last year in Irvine!
